3–4 November 2026 | Budapest, Hungary
On 3 and 4 November 2026, the partners of PlaceMUS XR will gather in Budapest for the project’s General Assembly, hosted at the Central European University (CEU) Budapest Campus.
The two-day meeting will bring together the project consortium to review the progress achieved during the first year of activities, discuss ongoing research and technological developments, and coordinate the next phases of work.
The General Assembly will provide an opportunity to strengthen collaboration among partners and address key scientific and technical challenges related to the documentation, digitisation, interpretation and digital accessibility of European musical heritage.
Reviewing Progress and Planning the Next Steps
The first day will open with a plenary session dedicated to the activities carried out across the project’s Work Packages, including the development of musical heritage itineraries and scenarios, preliminary user studies, digitisation and audiovisual content production, integration with the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), and communication and dissemination activities.
Partners will also introduce upcoming tasks and research priorities, with particular attention to the development of digital resources, interaction design, accessibility, data management and integration into the ECCCH ecosystem.
Representatives of the project’s Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) are also expected to contribute to the discussions, providing feedback on project activities and results.
Four Working Groups to Address Key Scientific and Technical Challenges
A central component of the General Assembly will be the organisation of four thematic Working Groups, designed to encourage technical discussions, exchange expertise and identify shared methodologies and operational approaches.
Working Group 1 – Digitisation Techniques and Strategies
The group will examine methodologies, standards and workflows for the production of 3D models and visualisations of music-related places and objects. Discussions will address digitisation techniques, data quality, optimisation, open formats and FAIR principles, contributing to the definition of common guidelines for PlaceMUS XR.
Working Group 2 – GDPR, Licensing and Authorship
This group will focus on intellectual property rights, data protection, licensing and authorship, exploring approaches to the ownership, sharing, protection and reuse of project results, including open-source exploitation strategies.
Working Group 3 – Metadata Creation and Data Archiving
The group will address ECCCH requirements, FAIR data and HDTO, and metadata formalism. A hands-on exercise will invite participants to map data from a case study using the metadata formalism selected for the project. Participants, particularly pilot leads, are encouraged to bring real data and metadata examples to support the discussion.
Working Group 4 – Data Integration, XR Tools and Content Mapping
The group will introduce the PlaceMUS XR ecosystem architecture and showcase a mock-up of the web application for accessing musical itineraries. Participants will test the user experience and contribute to refining its design and interaction. CNR will present an example of multilayer storytelling mapping based on content collected in Georgia, followed by a hands-on exercise using the storytelling template to map content from another case study.
Strengthening Collaboration within the European Cultural Heritage Cloud
The second day will include a presentation by representatives of the ECHOES project on data integration and metadata, followed by further Working Group discussions.
The General Assembly will conclude with a plenary session in which partners will share the outcomes of the four Working Groups, discuss potential risks and define the next steps, including preparations for the project’s first Review Meeting.
By bringing together expertise in cultural heritage, music, digital documentation, data management and immersive technologies, the Budapest General Assembly will contribute to the development of shared approaches and coordinated activities across the PlaceMUS XR consortium.
The meeting will take place on 3–4 November 2026 at the Central European University Budapest Campus, Hungary.
